About the role
Reading and writing open the door to every other subject. As an English Tutor you will help children read with understanding, write with purpose and speak with confidence, whether they are building early literacy or analysing texts for GCSE.
Key responsibilities
- Deliver reading, writing, grammar and spelling sessions to small groups
- Develop comprehension, vocabulary and creative writing skills
- Prepare pupils for school assessments, SATs and GCSE where relevant
- Keep simple progress notes and share feedback with parents
Skills and qualities we’re looking for
- A love of reading that you can pass on to children
- Patience and encouragement, especially with reluctant readers and writers
- Reliability and good organisation
- Confident communication with children and parents
Experience
- Strong English subject knowledge
- Experience teaching or tutoring children
